Male/Fem There are 5 colours (varieties) in the Great Dane breed: Fawn, Brindle, Blue, Black and Harlequin. The Blue colour is the lessee common as in records as in breeder numbers.
Some years ago in the United States they toughs to unconsidered the blue variety because it was a genetic malfunction with severe coating problems that in the past the veterinary medicine did not resolve. Thanks to breeder hard work, today the blue colour is not a different colour and they can fight with advantages the photos in advertising and magazine speciality. Feeding
In a general way, the Great Dane should be fed exclusively with dry food. There is excellent foods in the market that allow excluding any nutritional supplement for the dogs in adult age. Up to 1980, the dry food had as main goal to supply rude meal. Since 2000, and after great developments, the main manufacturers present a fan of products directly to different size dogs, and inside of these, adapted to each race, level of activity, age of the animal and in function of its physiological state. We exactly dare ourselves to affirm that today it is not possible to choose the best dry food for the Great Dane, given the extensive one offers of quality that the market presents.
However, we will present an idea that we tough to be the best way to feed a Great Dane. This is in a base of our experience and a research from a known dry food brand.

2ª stage - The final size will be around 24 months. From 8 to 24 moths, the Great Dane is the junior stage. Here, is muscles will grow 50% it means the adult Dane will weights 1,5 the 8 months weight. For this stage should be considered a junior large breed speciality.
3ª stage - The adult size is normally around 24 months. The Great Dane is now a big dog and should be feed with adult large breed. Is important in this stage to decide whish kind of food should be feed: "Normal", "Energy" or "Light". The "Energy" should be feed to dogs with high level of exercise and the "light" is recommended to obese dogs.

Temperament "Each Dogue is a case, but there is many things that we can expect because our Dogue is a dog and others because our dog is a Dane" Mary J. MacCracken - The Great Dane Handbook
Some characteristics are genetic and others influenced by learning in infancy. Many of the attitudes demonstrate in adult are apprehended in the social conviviality and the trainings. This means that much of that the Great Dane is, depends solely on the owner. The Great Dane is a true one loving of the home, the family and the comfortable life. It has a steady temperament and a calm attitude. Although great and strong is also sensible and dependent of the owner. In contrast to other races the Great Dane is always to its side. It is a dog that always tries to modify the imposed rules. It demands therefore firmness and coherence. If we will be condescending in a situation, it goes to require the same indulgence in the next time. It's a 100% a home dog. It loves family life, and a soft bad. It prefers the sofa! In France, more than 50% of Great Danes lives in apartments.
A known Portuguese monthly magazine says that it is a “cat friend”. Something bizarre thinking the size differences. However we have the same opinion: “patinhas” our cat shares the house space with Danes without problems. .
Male/Female "Yes, the males are big... but any Dane is a big dog." Mary J. MacCracken - The Great Dane Handbook
